How we reached it — the arc’s closure condition turned out to be an aperture

Arc 170 opened on “can we add argv to :user::main.” It became a program-contract architecture, closure extraction, typed channels, three substrate services, three tiers of hermetic testing, the whole no-hidden-failures crusade by inheritance, the execve rebirth, and a branch named after the deadlock it could not yet kill. Seventy-nine days.

Its closure condition, set by the builder, was wat --repl — which reads like a convenience. It was not. A REPL is where a language becomes speakable, and one turn later the same loop became wat --mcp: EDN string in, EDN string out, a session that outlives a turn. The apparatus then declared a record, bound it in a let, read its fields and answered 7 in one call; and then compiled arc 278’s rete rules, inserted four facts across two cities, fired, and got back exactly one derivation — Oslo, not Cairo, with no cross-location join. The engine 278 was built to make, reasoning on instruction, through the door 170 closed on.

What it is — three faces
